I agree with you that this story is very relevant in today's American "buy everything" mentality. Good job!
Thanks!

Very nice (and effective) analogy at the end of your blog that messing with an operating system's kernel information leads to the crash of the whole system. That could explain why he (and many other people) go crazy.

In reply to the above comment - I think that's the point that Rushdie is trying to make, that is, real happiness cannot be found in a mere object or "bought" at a price for that matter. So, to answer your question, no, I don't think that she would have taken him back. This is why he stops bidding and goes home.

Yes, that was my thought as well, that though we learn English and are able to communicate universally, we should at the same time, not neglect or forget our native language. That way, it will bring down the statistics for the dying number of languages.
Thanks for the comment!

I agree with you that there will always be those who oppose what's good for the world as a whole because it does not fit there "agenda". But that is where we should take a stand for what we believe and never give up.
Nice job!

Good question to finish off with. My answer would be yes, it is pointless bidding for something that is priceless against those with inexhaustible wealth. But isn't this the part were the irony lies, that though they are willing (and are able) to bid so high, it will not buy them real happiness.
Good job!

Its an interesting fact that though being one of the underdeveloped nations in the world, it has the seventh largest army in the whole world as well as nuclear weapons worth billions of dollars.

I agree, outsourcing does have it positives and negatives. Lower production costs which result in companies being able to compete, achieve higher profits and deliver cheaper products is definetly a postive, although of course at a cost of the loss of jobs here in the US.
Good report!

I agree with you that to be able to restore harmony one must clearly identify and accept the different struggles in one's life, mind and self. Denial will definetly lead to an imbalance. Good point.
Thanks!

Very good point that though the slippers cause greed and self-absorption, the need for happiness still unites them.
Good blog!
